like.. are there families that to this day were homesteaded to the land, which are still owned by them, or has all of this land now since been sold and resold many times over?

is there eighteen sixteen two land that was "given"/"taken" to homesteaders that to this day are still within the family that originally "took"/"got"/"made" it?

i'm not entirely sure how to ask this question, because i can ask and somebody can say their forefathers bought it from a bank, etc, etc.. but i mean, actual land that a family walked towards, took, and still exists today as that same property for the descendants of the homesteader?

yes, this family has been on the same land for over 200 years, settled there before Indiana became a state in 1816. My family move to Indiana in the mid 1800s still live on an farm some of the same ground for over 100 years but not the original home stead.

yes, the federal homestead does not still exist, but there are a few state and plenty of municipality homesteading programs with various conditions, from towns that will give you free land if you build a home, to free homes if you open a business.
