I have lost faith in the ability of humans to keep their privileges of living at the top of the food chain for a while now. However, recent events have transpired that make me believe that we just shouldn't exist at all.

This morning, for the first time in a couple weeks, I am on my way to being on time for work. I'm driving my mom's Lincoln, since my car decided to eat my car keys last night. I am almost there, when I come upon stopped traffic due to a traffic 'accident', at an intersection. This only reaffirms that traffic lights do not work if people decide not to follow them.

The cops and ambulance are already there, and the wreckers are pulling up. The mess has both lanes blocked off, so I cannot go around it. No, I have to turn off on this side street to keep going. I have never been on this street before, so I'm just looking for a road to turn on that will hopefully lead to the road I want. I pull out my phone, pull up the map, and activate the GPS feature so I can see where I'm at, and where I'm going.

I turn left on the first road I see, and I can see on my phone that the road I want is straight ahead. I can see the road I want, but not the road I'm on, because it's a very small street in a residential neighborhood, and I don't have the maps zoomed in far enough, but I figure I'm all right. Then I look in the mirror and see that other vehicles are following me. 7 or 8 vehicles in my quick counting. I think that they must know what they're doing, so therefore I must be heading in the right direction. The road curves, and there's another road off to the left, so I take it, and they follow me. There's plenty of side streets to get lost on. I pass a road off to the left and keep going straight, over a hill, and all the other vehicles do the same thing. I'm thinking my luck must be turning around after getting my key stuck in the ignition switch of my car.

Aaaannddd...cul-de-sac.

I'm thinking WTF, so I quickly zoom in on my phone, and see that, yes, there is a dead-end there. It's a cul-de-sac with no houses or anything else around it, it's just over a small hill so you don't see it coming, it looks like it was just put there, and now I've got people behind me who--obviously--do NOT know what they're doing anymore. So, I simply turn around and start heading back the other way. As I'm turning in the cul-de-sac, I look behind me, and beside me, at some of the drivers, and some of them look what I can best describe as "irritated".

I wanted to drive through the end of the cul-de-sac and down into the canal just beyond it just to see what the other vehicles would do, but I didn't. Instead, while driving back, with the vehicles STILL behind me, I study my phone a bit more and realize the road I had passed earlier eventually ends up at the road I want. Problem is, I have just passed it AGAIN, so I just pull into a driveway and let the other vehicles drive past before backing out, heading in the other direction, and taking the road. Success! I eventually end up at work, albeit 10 minutes late.

Really, people? Look, I understand not knowing what I'm doing or where I'm going. But if you're following someone who is obviously looking at a GPS program while driving down residential streets, it's pretty obvious that person also doesn't know what he or she is doing as well. I'm obviously not from around here. So why follow me anyways? Seriously, we're no better than cows in a panic, following the leader right over the cliff.

Those aren't cows, those are lemmings! ;)
I cannot see your signature - so if it's witty, put it in a post instead! :p

archaic: Patty, if it was you wearing it, I'd consider a fuzzy pink pig suit to be lingerie. Patty makes pork rock.

They didn't have GPS, so following you was their best chance :P

Is common mob mentality

Drive around the cul de sac and put yourself in the back of the train. That would have been funny and very irritating to the others.

LOL@oats

I see nothing wrong with those people - they had no clue what to do and followed someone who had some resemblance of a plan... I can understand why they would be frustrated when they ended up in a cul de sac... they are probably less frustrated than if they were still sitting by that mess they followed you away from...

Cows have been known to run off cliffs in groups.

Now that you mention it, I DID kinda leave them hanging in the middle of a residential neighborhood when I pulled into the driveway and then drove off in the other direction. Whoopsy.

You could have just said 'TL;DR'. Otherwise, you can just learn how to read multiple paragraphs at a time like most everyone else here.

Nah, we don't have that problem here.
