I had 10,020 acres and should have been in 9 DR because the fool did guerilla strikes before attacking. Why did he capture 4.5% of my land while I was in 9 DR? No response in that thread but I noticed he bounced three GS attacks so I tested some bounces.

Do bounces do nothing? I just bounced 9 times on purpose, then made a grab, got a nice return. He had 11,201 land so 666 acres is 5.95%.

Or do bounces actually REMOVE DR?

Well, I don't think that's the case. Tested it some more, ran a bunch of bounces, and my return was still crap.

4)Only successful special attacks affect DRs(*NEW)
-If a Person that has a count of DR 0 and gets FAILED AB/GS/BR 10 times by someone else, he would still have an count of DR 0

Apparently this is a new change(not really recent, lets see if I can find anything from announcement)

It was a change made to prevent alliances from engaging in self-DR I think.

Several sets ago, after MD employed that strategy a lot while losing to SoF (IIRC). ;) People didn't like that.

Incidentally, we switched to self-DR via successful GS attacks since they didn't do much damage.

but looking at blid's first post above, there were 6 successful GS's there, and then 3 DH's. So that is odd to me?

Yeah that seems like a high return for 6 DR at least.

Not only that, blid, you even posted in that thread.

Successful special attacks cause DR and destroy your stuff ( and with new changes, GS steals stuff ). Unsuccessful special attacks do not increase DR ( see complaints about DR abuse in Express ). blid's example look like a bug.

Looks like the admins don't know how to test before they activate changes. You would think when making a change to DR, they would test all possibilities for DR.

1. successful GS -> grab SS
2. unsuccessful GS -> grab SS
3. successful GS -> grab PS
4. unsuccessful GS -> grab PS
5. successful GS -> unsuccessful GS
6. unsuccessful GS -> successful GS
7. grab SS -> successful GS
8. grab SS -> unsuccessful GS
9. grab PS -> unsuccessful GS
10. grab PS -> unsuccessful GS
11. DH SS -> successful GS
12. etc, etc, etc

Or get better testers. Too many noobs in PDM.

you are supposed to test things in alpha and then report your findings to admin(s).

I was reading the latest announcement and it was talking about DH's adding DR and all that, and like I said, i lost track.

but what of a country takiong 4.5% my land after doing 6 successful GS? 7th hit should only be 50% returns

gaining about that amount of acres(443 acres) based on dr 6 is about there. He has roughly same acres as you(10k) and he's about 80% of your size at the point of attack. The gains seems about right.

so in short,
Unsuccessful specials removes DR from the attacker, but does not add to the defender.

Correct :) as Xin pointed out, that was a bugfix some time ago; It was supposed to be programmed that way, from the beginning, but I must have switched them around somehow

Actually it was all part of slagpit's fluff up of dr when the game was created. In e2025 failed gs/br/ab added/removed 0.25 dr, and he wrongly thought it was full dr along with several other failings such as failed ss/ps should have added/removed 0.5 dr, rather than the 1.0 he insisted upon.

he did do a heck of a lot of testing in the last set of e2025, SolidSnake. i'm sure the mods of e2025 helped out.

not to say that all of his findings were right, but he did put a lot of time and effort into helping this game get on its feet, and then some.

I'm almost certain he was correct on that point SS; we tested it back and forth *many* times, and it always worked out exactly the way it is (now) implemented. There was never any fractional DR then =/

Well there's not much point going over it again now, but there was fractional dr in e2025 ;)

GS/BR/AB caused 0.5 dr. Failed hits caused 0.25 dr.
SS/PS caused 1 dr, .5 dr on failed hits
Missiles caused 0 dr.
