They have been there since day 1 :)
You probably had ad blocker on. But the ads generate some revenue for the game.

Buy premium, it's great, no ads, no captcha for bonus points etc.

This has actually been fixed by Pang. I think there was confusion when folks were saying ads, it was popups. Thanks for the headsup!
