Those who have fallen
Have done so not in vain
For as the sun rises again
Over the cliffs in the east
To set behind the deep forest
On the westernmost shore
We take a moment to listen,
In silence, under an umbrella
Of selflessness and safety,
To the reverberations of the past
As we bow our heads and envision
A future for peace to rest
And steer us away from war.

Here's one I wrote over the summer. Not the same topic as the above, but one of my favourites regardless.

--

There's a sunken grave near the back of an old cemetery,
To the left of a paved road it sits
Its headstone, cracked, whispers of bold memories
Long since gone cold - history

Oft times than not, a few will trepass through grounds
To the grave to the left of the road paved
Bowing their heads, the few visitors view down
At the beaten headstone askew - crown

Most have forgotten long since what the epitaph reads:
"This death here by causes natural."
Not disease took the buried here, beneath the aft' breeze
Simply the inability to last - be.

Long tufts of wild grasses waver as the skies fill
With errant cries of doves mourning
The realized futility of our imagined survival
Quietly, here, our creativity lies - still

That's very cool, CX. I write and paint a little, and really appreciate seeing the work of others.

cx i really can't produce a worthy response to that last one.
it's special.

hammer - what do you paint?
i haven't been active for some years (i'm in a period of deep facilitation right now) but at my best i am a post modern abstract expressionist

Vic, same for me. It kind of comes and goes due to work schedule and other hobbies. I won't paint for a year or two and then I'll paint every day. I did landscapes/seascapes for a long time, then moved to abstract expressionism and impressionism. I do a little wildlife as well. Have really changed it up over the years. I began with oils, went to water colors, did acrylics for 10 years, and am back to oils and/or acrylics depending on the work. Seems every time I stop and then start back, I use something different.

Cool topic CX started for us. Nice to see a different side to you guys. (That sentence sounds weird but you know what I mean.)

that's great hammer. my first painting was an attempt at abstract impressionism (a seascape) and as i painted it went way more expressionist. ever since i was active solely as an expressionist. first with only acrylics - as they held the movement and brought to life my rapid brushstrokes better than oil, and then more recently toward the end of my last active period only with oils as i moved away from works inspired by the new york school, and began works in a more neo-expressionist vein, in homage to basquiat

That's awesome guys. I was never big into painting or drawing - don't have the eye for the visual in that sense. I am better with word and have been writing on and off for 7 years now. As with most arts, it comes and goes in waves where inspiration is concerned.
