it's like a missed trip in hockey, or a shooting foul in basketball, or an outrun infield single being called an out. refs have been known to not be perfect.

Navas was onsides becuase when the ball was first played to Iniesta, Navas was considered to not be part of the play. This is usually a refs judgement call, but as long as Navas stays even or behind the ball when Iniesta passes it to him, he is onsides; therefore, the goal stood. If he had been in front of Iniesta when the ball was played to him, it would not have been a goal.
