Why is the boxcar market ticker not being supported anymore?

So that just means pang needs a dependable host for boxcar.... Qz is hosting earth, evo gt, and boxcar...

Anyone in this community trustworthy and have the capability to host it?

Pang is/was working on a new hosting site and I can speak from experience the layout of it looks SWEET! I hope it gets completed sometime. So many things to do and so little time :p

Someone ask Qz / Pang to remove my 10 year ban!

well, the original market ticker had every single person connected to boxcar doing 1 or 2 requests per second to boxcars server, which was using 2Mbit upload in the background...

A market ticker that updates on minute or several-minute intervals would be fine, that would reduce the background by at least a factor of 60...

[Edit: the 2Mbit was pang/TC's estimate before when I asked; TC has a 20Mbit symmetric pipe, so lots of UL room; mine is not symmetric, we have much more DL than UL bandwidth]

Finally did the signature thing.

Ok so I see a few other options. Change it to every 30 seconds or minute and leave it on, have it as something that you click to activate so that it isnt always on for everyone or uhh.. forgot the 3rd idea.

Assuming Evo had something similar on their site how often did it update or how is it different? I assume you didn't shut it down.

It should be up there and be a manual link the update it. That way it doesn't eat up Bandwidth when someone doesn't want to see it.

My domain has a 100 MB/s download/upload pipe that has unlimited bandwidth, cap, HDD space, mySql DBs, on a Dell Edge Server with 15k RPM and like 15 MB/s i/o speed for the HDD.
It can run any web hosting and still have plenty to spare (including the market ticker without bogging down the system) (edit was that they do not allow IRC, as it is their preference.)

I am willing to keep it going if we can have an actual use for it.

Evo doesn't have a market ticker; if you want to see the market, you currently have to go to the market page;

As for fixing it; I've looked at boxcars code once or twice now, it's not exactly programmer-friendly... i think thats why pang wants to write a new one...

again, i'm not a ionizing specialist, but i would've guessed there was a field where it tells the market thingie how often to refresh, and figured why not change it from 60 to 1 (updates per minute or whatever)?

I had to leave it disabled back when it worked, the constant updates were battery killers when viewing the site from a mobile.

Considering some of the stuff done by other people who are trusted I wouldn't only consider the past. Present Tan may be much more trust worthy. That's not my decision though :P

Requiem, BC Admins cannot do anything but reset server, add public boards and other functions. They aren't able to see alliance forums as that's how the script is ran. So, it is pointless to bring it up about trustworthy when Admins don't have that kind of access.
