for some reason I can't log back after I have logged out and closed that browser while still having forums open. either its browser (latest FF) bug (1 FF had that bug bit long ago) or game bug.

its a cookie problem :P IE, server problem. it hasnt happened to me in a while now, and am still using the same version as in that post.

hmm i had a cross server log in.
i think it was my alliance country i logged into and then immediately after noticed the 'last login' time on portal for all the other servers reflected the same 'last played: 0h ago'

but i did not in any way log into express or primary or team

i do agree that there's some issue with our cookies, but it pre-dates the backend changes. i've managed to replicate this problem a few times, but only by accident. tbh, it hasn't happened to me since the backend change.

it initially happened because some people logged in from http://alliance.www.earthempires.com and then couldn't access team, ffa, etc because the cookie stuck to alliance. but now that we don't have those sub-domains, i can't think what would be causing these issues.

If anyone could explain what url they are attempting to login from, browser, did they logout usin logout link, or did cookie expire, or etc, etc, etc please email me details to

yes, i've read that thread and all it is doing is blaming the code change. i think the backend code change was just a coincidence, because cookies have had some strange problems for a while.

i log in (clicking alliance) and out from portal and try to re-login via portal. 1st time i click link in boxcar.

now re-login works again for me.

No, it is listing the urls and methods of logging in failures, which are the answers to your questions. It was only implying the cause could be as a result of the backend changes. I will repost again for you:

- Yes to logging out, yes to not logging out. It didnt matter.
- Portal login would only log me into the forums (i was definitely logged out of forums before the attempt to access the game) but the page displayed would tell me cookies werent enabled above the username textbox. I noticed because right after the attempt i was magically signed into my form account when going to the forums.

the back-end changes didn't change the cookie structure though, or the login process, or authentication....

so it's something earlier than that....

if somebody is a cookie expert you could dissect our cookies and see if we're doing something wrong?

I suppose i can make it so they don't have to be cross-site now, that's one big advantage to the back-end changes

choc cookie expires quite quickly like I told to izarc, after changing browser settings that cookie would have expired 5 mins before I sent msg to izarc, others expire end of session.

On a hunch (I didn't actually check), are all the cookies set to expire at the same time by the server?

heh, it's happened to me like 4 times since then too, on all sorts of machines, but i know to clear cookies now so i do and am always good to go after that

i don't think i'm doing anything against best practise from whta i've read... but i'll look at them this weekend perhaps -- gf is out of town so i may have some time... and i may get tired of bashing my head against LXC

Ok, this problem seems to be only affecting a minority of users. Is there any possibility that the affected players have software (for example, anti-virus, or anti-spyware) installed that regularly scans and removes cookies set by earthempires that earthempires expects to be there?

Nope, b/c it happens to me while on linux as well, across different computers, and it happens to overs who just dont post here.

is your IP address bouncing all over the place every request ? are you using Tor ?
