So I mountain bike a lot, single track etc. I've saw a lot of fat bikes recently online. Have any of you rode one/know someone who has one? Just curious if they are any good. I assume the main draw for them is snow/sand etc? Would it be good year around?

I might just have to get one and try for myself hehe

I was looking at this one:

Apparently good for year round. First part of the vid i saw a sob pushing the bike up hill in the snow. Funk that.

Yeah it does look fun though! I'd assume if you like to off road mountain bike you'd like this.

Yes, I rode one yesterday :) It's truly awesome for snow/sand/mud, it just rolls over everything!! You should absolutely try one, and get one if it's in the budget :) Some of the bike shops here rent them out for $60/day, if you want to try one before :)

As for good year round, yes, Revolution Cycle was still doing fat-bike rides a couple days after we got 35cm of snow :-)

I still use my mountain bike on those, but it's hellishly difficult compared to a fat bike. Next year I'll be able to afford one hopefully.

Damn 60/day is kind of expensive lol! I could just buy a cheap one for a few hundred I think.

I'll deff see if my local shops have one that I can test tho.

Yeah, that's the kind of bike I saw going up Groat Road that I was telling you about, qz. Crazy how they can handle snow.

I would no doubt buy one if I didn't have my budget tied up on my auto X 510, maybe next winter!

seems to me the wide tires would pedal like a fluff. but would float over soft ground or snow

Well a *decent* one will run you $1500 easy, imho; anything less than that is going to be hellishly heavy. But if you don't mind working a bit harder, i suppose heavy is okay.

They're actually not bad, i mean they won't keep up with a normal 29" mountain bike on dry trails in the summer, but they're only a touch more difficult; and in the winter they're amazing; but even in the summer, vs a 26" mountain bike, the fact that they roll over *everything* can be nice if you're on rooty trails for example...
