build looks good to me, and yeah the pci wifi card is too expensive. never had issues with usb wifi, but you could get a good pci-e card for less than $20. if you want to save another $70 or so you could go with an i3 7100 or something lower, you won't feel the difference with regular office apps

GF has ALOT of photos. She needs a 2 tb hdd.

no laptop for under 500 will do that. Also, she has a surface, and peripherals to use a desktop. Plus, desktops are cheaper and i dont want crap hardware lol.

The $20 wifi cards dont have enough mbps. There is no point having the router we have if the wlan hardware bottlenecks.

As for the Puppy recommendation above, I've heard to stay away from the Kaby Lake 7100 i3. It doesn't make sense and you get better bang for a 6th gen I-5 or pay the extra for the 7400 as you originally have listed.

What will you be using it for?

All I heard so far was that your girlfriend does p0rn for a living and has a lot of photos. About 2TB worth.

I would have said you can get a $250 laptop for your use case and get an $80 external 2TB hard drive.

But hey, in your shoes I'd also go overkill just for a better user experience. Your build will absolutely kill it.

Why would you build a computer for this? Its basically going to be a glorified storage hard drive anyways... just get something cheap and used. Maybe from your local recycling facility

the days of building pcs are over except for specialised requirements. best go to an online custom build - more economical and reliable.
