So I'm playing for the first time since '99 and I've noticed a few changes that I'd like to write about:
1. Game's much better. Lots of improvements and a bit of polish thrown in, many of the things Mehul didn't want or simply forgot to implement are here. The game's mechanics are better, it feels much more balanced. Even the simple fact that you can upload status reports with a click is godly and completely logical, in hindsight.
2. Community's decent. Haven't really followed AT or the boards in general, but the feeling I get is that, despite the fact that it's not completely up to speed in its "entropy", i.e. random fluffstorms that throw the whole alliance server into one big war, things are headed in that direction and it's only a matter of time and more players. Alliance-wise, either I've been extremely fortunate in playing with some very decent people, or the amount of "old hands" makes the experience enjoyable for me, personally.
A bigger and more involved community would eventually fix all the game's problems, which is kinda like saying the sky is blue, but actually takes a whole lotta work to implement. I don't know if tweeting my latest landgrab would make me happy, so to speak, but for a minimal game, some social media integration wouldn't hurt, including being able to play the game on Facebook. The game still feels in need of a certain je ne sais quoi, almost as if it's forced in its minimalism. The strategies are there and decent, the player interaction could grow a lot more, but you don't really feel like you're getting back enough. The bonus system is decent, but it kinda fails to address the issue.
Overall, while it's much better than the "original", E2025 is still missing some yet-undiscovered feature (somewhere between the personalisation of the game and player interaction) that would really bring it up in the world. Maybe some people enjoy it like this, I find it largely similar to playing an abandonware game in everything but personal rewards.
That's about it. Reset ends for me on June 4th, from what I can see. I won't be playing again, most likely, but I'm glad I gave the game another whirl. And while this isn't Yet Another Goodbye Thread, I just felt the need to write these things.
And sex. You may now flame me :D
