Frustration? Of course it is. This goes on way too often and there is no solution.
That's a difficult thing to accept.
As for the constitution, yes it protected the new country from invaders . England was still hot against us , so we needed to be wary.
But that was a long time ago and we still hold onto that right to bear arms.
For what? What is the practical use?
We have a military force, we have a national guard, we have a police force.
And before someone comes on and starts screaming about the police killings and the military court martials , bring a viable solution.
It's apparent that people carrying guns is not working.

It is good tho that threads like this do bring discussion to an otherwise quiet forum.

it was this reason and also because the did not trust government "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants"

Didn't read all of this its a tragedy no doubt.

But to the people talking about Obama speaking about gun control...remember Obama had to apologize for selling guns to the Mexican cartels j.s

the problem is nothing is consistent nationwide, and the only national dont sell list is if you are a felon, and sometimes that doesn't even work if you move one state over. instead of going after legit gun owners who shoot like you fish, why dont you focus your efforts towards the enforcing and normalization of keeping the guns out of criminals and psychos hands.

I agree with this, but the NRA is against national standards and/or better lists of anything. A proper system for tracking guns and accountability for people in the chain of custody would be great.

I understand plenty of folks are still worried about the government becoming an oppressive monster that they need to be armed against for a civilian uprising/resistance - and a gun registry is antithetical to that end... I just don't agree with them that the cost/benefit makes sense or that it would ever work anyway.

You kind of touched on it. It is the POTENTIAL for abuse that people are against.

Washington State had a vote after sandy hook to let sheriff’s deputies enter your house once a year in order to make sure you are storing your guns in a safe manner.

Now on paper, that looks like a good idea. it would probably lead to less accidental shootings by kids and what not, and I’m all for proper gun storage, I have a safe that costs more than my old truck that I keep my weapons in. it also helps knock down the risk of theft by unsavory individuals and having them find their way onto the streets.

But look at the potential for abuse in that policy. The slack that it gives a governing body. Don’t have time to get a warrant? Yearly gun check! There would have to be some serious restrictions on that power, and even then it could be too much.

I don’t think there needs to be a national registry for all guns, which just isn’t really feasible. What there needs to be is a national don’t sell list, which there really isn’t right now. there was a crazy old guy that set his house on fire a couple years ago right after sandy hook, and he shot at the firefighters that showed up.

That dude was on a do not sell list in his home state, he just drove one state over and got what he wanted.....

Regardless, there is no easy solution, and with the bureaucrats so deeply entrenched on this issue and the ineptitude of our government to get anything done without 1000 pages of concessions added onto any bill, I don’t have much hope for real change, just cosmetic legislation that makes the activists feel safer because responsible gun owners have to wait 3 more days to get their gun.
