I don't care who you support, or what sport you follow. This is truly a sad day in sport.

Man, he is one of my all time favorite guys in baseball - what a sucky way to go out. I hate the Yankees, but that just blows, he deserved a rocking chair tour as much as anybody in sports.

Mo Riv's a stand up guy, even though I hate the yankees... and I was sad to see him injured like that

That being said,

WHY ARE PITCHERS DOING RETARDED fluff NOW?

i have no problem with him catching BP balls, but why the fark was he that close to the warning track to begin with? same with with AJ worthless burnett earlier this season when he took a baseball to the face. what is your #1 pitcher taking bunting practice in spring training - nothing good could come from either situation.

but yeah, in the end it's pretty sad.

i don't mean this in a bad way, but i hope he doesn't try to come back. there's no point. he's already the #1 closer in the history of the game

Just read the story of it. Ya, i can say for sure he is done playing baseball. I used to be a good pitcher back in high school (ya i was even a state champion). You use your legs in a huge way as a pitcher. Also, a year ago i suffered a life changing injury to my left knee. I tore my ACL, PCL, and MCL. I also completely ripped apart the Patella tendon (connecting the knee cap to the chin) and dislocated my knee cap to my upper thigh. I will never run again, ride a bike, and now i mostly fall into chairs because as soon as my leg bends more than a little it just gives out.

The recovery time for him will be 6-9 months just to get him able to start walking again. There is no way his leg will be able to take the kind of pressure to pitch again. If he was in high school maybe by end of college but he is no spring chicken. Stick a fork in him he is done.

And yes, my injury was the most painful thing ive ever had in my life. My ankle was badly broken in the accident too but i couldn't even feel the pain form that due to the knee hurting so bad. There is something sick and unnatural when you see your chin bone sticking up where your knee cap is supposed to be and then a huge dip and a mound in the upper part of your leg (the knee cap). Good thing is they can almost fix anything- at least i can mostly walk again.

well, there is one difference, I'd say the ability to have the worlds best orthopedic surgeons at your beck and call probably improves his outcome

but yeah, 42 is not 22 - he was thinking about retiring any way, so I'd say he's done

tendons and ligaments take a ton longer to heal even with the best surgery than broken bones. Trust me- he is finished.

A "friend" asked me to help him carry a large BBQ pit down a steep hill (it was chuck full of charcoal). I was carrying it in my right hand he in his left. I am pretty sure he went down first, causing my rt foot to shoot straight out in front of me and pulling me down the hill to the right. The problem was my left foot hung up on something and never moved. So, my upper body reflex went back and then down to the right, causing my shin bone to shoot up through the kneecap in my left leg. The knee cap went into my thigh and down the hill i went. My left foot never moved except from the big ball at the ankle (distal tibia) which totally busted apart.

So there i was at the bottom of the hill with most of my left leg uphill and mangled. He lived in the middle of nothing so staying and waiting for ambulance was not an option. I knew i couldn't do much with the leg like that so i told myself its a leg, they can fix anything with a leg, grabbed it, and straightened it all back up. Yes, it hurt. I only WHISHED i passed out but i never did. Once straight i could get up and had to hop into the truck- while he held my shoelaces, keeping my leg straight. However once in the truck- it moved uncontrollably all the way to the hospital.

Tragedy really, awful to see him go down and be in pain like that. Thankfully today he told the media he will be back. At 42, with a torn ACL he still wants to fight back and finish the game on his terms. Awesome stuff. One of my favorite athletes in all of sports.
