1) Why not? This ain't the dark ages, folks in the UK don't all live in huts and castles anymore do they?

Really, no matter what reasons you give, the rest of the world is going to giggle at the UK. Come on, man up, brits.
Lastly, sure, cities generally south of the mason dixon line will shut down at the sight of an inch of snow, but whoopy, people stay inside and drink and play games. Just beceause they're stuck at home doesn't mean 200+ people die a day.
